Performance of genetic tests
- The end user of the service is responsible for providing informed consent prior to the processing of their information and sample.
- The customer or client getting the genetic test shall be responsible for getting a genetic counselling or consultation both before and after the test. Genetic testing is for informational purposes only, it is not medical advice, and it is not substitute for professional medical advice, genetic counselling, diagnosis or treatment.
- Genetic testing performed by AttoDiagnostics Ltd. is in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and international quality requirements. The accuracy rate of testing is 95% or higher.
- Turnaround time of the genetic test depends on the testing method used. All information about turnaround time is published within our FAQs on AttoDiagnostics Ltd. website. AttoDiagnostics Ltd. will do everything to submit the results of the test at the first possibility, but AttoDiagnostics Ltd. cannot take responsibility for the delay of the results due to unforeseen time-consuming cases.
Limitations of genetic testing
The development of the genetic test and performance of the analyses is based on our current knowledge of the molecular biological data and it may change over time as more information becomes available. Due to the variability of DNA as a biological material and the molecular biological methods used, in rare cases the result of the genetic test may appear to be invalid.
Genetic test results and interpretation may be inaccurate for individuals who have undergone or are receiving non-autologous blood transfusion, tissue, or organ transplant therapies. The report includes alleles of proteins involved in the metabolism of many medications. In rare cases, a variant that is not covered may be typed as *1 or other variants. In the case of pseudogenes and mutations in the untranslated regions of genes, incorrect allele typing may occur despite proper SNP detection. Preferential amplification of one allele over another present in the sample may also lead to incorrect genotyping
Interpretation of results for genetic testing
The purpose of genetic testing is to identify genetic profiles or mutations, to evaluate the presence or predisposition to a particular condition, and to assess the risk of developing a particular condition or response pattern.
- In the interpretation of the genetic test, it should be taken into consideration that current knowledge on the genetics of the profile, and on the interactions of various genes, may be incomplete. The current interpretation of the genetic test may be subjected to change in the future due to the publication of new scientific investigations.
- The result received based on the genetic test may not be complete, because many ethnic groups are not involved in scientific research. The results of genetic tests issued by AttoDiagnostics Ltd. are based on published scientific research and may not be applicable to all ethnic groups.
- AttoDiagnostics Ltd. is not responsible for legal, material, social, psychological, or moral consequences that may appear in association to the results of genetic testing.
Issue of the test results
- The test results will be issued only to the customer of the genetic test. Copy of the results will be issued only to the person(s) whose name(s) and data have been marked on the submission form or sample registration portal. AttoDiagnostics Ltd. shall not disclose the personal data of the patient or the results of the genetic test to third parties.
- Raw data of test results or genetic material in case of genetic testing services including genotyping, whole exome sequencing, whole-genome sequencing and related technologies will be stored in accordance with the directives of The Royal College of Pathologist (The retention and storage of pathological records and specimens – 5th edition, 2015, PUB 270415). Any inquiries about additional data analysis are accepted up to 2 years after the test results have been issued.
- Unless otherwise instructed by the customer, AttoDiagnostics Ltd. may use de-identified ‘surplus’ diagnostic samples for quality improvements and/or scientific purposes based on ethical approval from the relevant research ethics committees when required.
- The customer has a right to renounce the knowledge of the test results by informing AttoDiagnostics Ltd. in writing before the results have been issued, whereas it does not give the customer the right to reclaim the sum paid for the test.
